Who we are...
The formation of the VSC occurred in 2006 due to the recognition of issues facing our Transitioning Military Personnel and their families. The Program addresses the post deployment issues of combat related stress, unemployment, and family disintegration. The VSC recognizes that family involvement is a key factor in helping the Veteran to successfully overcome combat related issues during the adjustment and reintegration back into civilian life.
Since 2006 the VSC has been working with local Congressional Representatives; and more recently VSC has received bipartisan Congressional support and recognition in the San Diego region as well as with the local VA, United Veterans Council, and related agencies. VSC members include:
- Casa de Amparo - A 501(c)(3), not for profit organization with the mission of supporting children at risk for neglect and abuse. Their Veteran family centric programs and services promote healing, growth, and healthy relationships.
- The Minnow Lake Foundation - A 501(c)(3), not for profit organization and the first Family Camp in the United States to receive Federal Accreditation from the American Camp Association. Their mission directly supports Veteran family reintegration.
- Bernardo Technical Services, Inc - A woman owned small business specializing in IT support services to DOD, Event/Camp management, technical writing, and instructional development.
- California Miramar University - A Federally accredited higher education institution offering certificate programs related to career development and job placement, as well as associate, bachelor, and master degree programs in business and leadership. They provide tools for military and civilian personnel to succeed in their careers.
The organizations involved in this effort have applied their resources over the last three years to develop and promote the VSC program. The VSC has engaged with many Veteran support organizations to dialog, reduce unnecessary program duplication, and enhance the resources offered to Veterans.
