VCS Program

The VSC has created a seven day family camp program modeled after the Minnow Lake Foundation success. The multi-pronged approach includes:

  • Seven day Family Reintegration Camp Program including family counseling.
  • Career Counseling, Education, Job Placement, and Veteran Mentoring.
  • Family Counseling and Education related to the issues associated with Combat Related Stress.
  • Veteran community participation through national networks including partnerships with the Veterans Administration, Veterans Village, and the United Veterans Council.
  • Program Formative and Summative Evaluation with metrics assessment providing program impact and results.
  • Complete Client Confidentiality.
  • Creation of jobs though Veterans helping Veterans.
  • Online VSC Portal to provide program support, camp registration, Veteran resource information, employment assistance, client management and follow through.
  • Proposed strategic relationship with the Military Child Education Coalition.

The VSC has received bipartisan Congressional support in California. The Program includes VA involvement for selection of Veterans and TMPs within the Pilot. Since the Program is focused on family reintegration, our ideal participant is a married or single Veteran or Transitioning Military Personnel with minor children. All data gathered during program participation is completely confidential.

Identifying Program Participants

Both Casa de Amparo and the Minnow Lake Foundation identify program participants through a variety of community, state, and Federal sources. Referral sources include:

  • The Veterans Administration
  • Medical Centers
  • Family Readiness Officers (FRO)
  • Commanding Officers
  • Individual Veteran or Family Requests
  • Family Care Commissions
  • Project Care
  • The Court System
  • Social Service Agencies
  • Corporate Referrals

Since the Program focuses on family reintegration, our ideal participant is a married or single Veteran or Transitioning Military Personnel with minor children. All data gathered during program participation is completely confidential and ensures participant anonymity.

Evaluating Outcomes

Data for each Veteran and associated family will be collected and retained to substantiate Veteran Support Consortium efforts. Monthly Program Reviews will serve as a collection point for VSC Team data. Both formative (ongoing) and summative (cumulative) evaluation processes will be used to track data findings and metrics, analyze program efficacy, ascertain potential improvements, and determine how program enhancements will be integrated. Any program changes that impact the consistent reporting of metrics will be documented and accounted for within program results reporting.

The VSC utilizes Desired Results Developmental Profiling (DRDP) processes to measure educational, learning, and social improvements. Use of the Parenting Stress Indexes (PSI) provides formal, evidence based, certified testing to accurately quantify adult and child decreases in overall stress levels. Current program metrics for Casa de Amparo and the Minnow Lake Foundation show a:

  • 33% decrease in parent depression levels
  • 47% increase in parent ability to meet the overall needs of their children
  • 56% decrease in families’ overall stress levels
  • 56% increase in parent-child bonding
  • 100% improvement in children problem-solving
  • 86-100% improvement in children literacy and comprehension
  • 60% decrease in children ADD/ADHD
